DIRECTOR OCTAVIO DANIEL CARREÑO Guadalajara, México August 5, 1992. Octavio Daniel Carreño, born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, has worked as a writer, screenwriter, audiovisual director, and educator, particularly interested in addressing issues such as violence and the intricate construction of masculinity in Mexico. With a background in film from the University of Guadalajara, under the guidance of teachers like Boris Goldenblank, Arturo Arango, Sofía Gómez-Córdova, and Marta Zatonyi, his creativity found expression in narrative and scriptwriting. Continuously exploring ancient religions and the inherent contradictions of modernity, his work revolves around the pursuit of magical realism loaded with drama. He won the Best Script award at the Shorts México Film Festival 2020 for his short film "Viene la lluvia." In the same year, Octavio was a FONCA Young Creators Program grantee. His latest short film, titled "Lights in the night sky," received support from the FOCINE program and the endorsement of the Proyecta Producción scholarship from the Secretary of Culture of the State of Jalisco. This script received a nomination at Shorts México 2022. During the same period, Octavio appeared on Filmarket Hub's list of Excellent Scripts of the Year for the series project "La Fortaleza." His short story, "La lengua de los Muertos," won the Juan Rulfo award for the best short story in the Festival Rulfiano de las Artes international competition. This literary work inspired his current homonymous project, a feature film.
